Bruce Milton Eppley

Bruce Milton Eppley, 90, lifelong resident of Elyria passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012. He was born January 31, 1922 to the late Milton and Marie Eppley.

Bruce served in the United States Army 1942-1944. He was a potato farmer with his sons, father and brother. The Eppley family had been raising potatoes since 1910 and retired from their work in 1999. Bruce was a member of Amherst Sandstone Senior Citizens Group, Lorain County Zipper Club, Lorain County Farm Bureau, and a 76 year member of Zion United Methodist Church, where he served in several positions. One year Bruce was King of the Amherst Potato Festival. He enjoyed visiting local restaurants and was close with the cooks, waitress’s, and managers. Bruce got great pleasure out of making people laugh with the stories and jokes he would tell. He loved to socialize everywhere he went. In 1994 he received a Certificate of Recognition for 50 consecutive years of voting from the Secretary of State Bob Taft.

Mr. Eppley is survived by his sons Thomas, Wayne (Karen), Dennis (Sandra), and Michael Eppley; grandchildren, Lori, Brian, Mark, Rebecca, Danielle, Allyson, Jonathan, and Jason; three great grandchildren; first wife Jeanne Eppley.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Frederick Eppley (2008) and second wife, Leona Eppley (2007).

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Thursday, July 19 at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Funeral service will be 10 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. Rev. Dick Kretchmar will officiate. Interment will follow in North Murray Ridge Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by VFW Post #1079 of Elyria.
